This project in 2009 has basically an HTML interface and a Flex interface. The HTML interface is for the main landing page, the other site pages, and the registration pages with SSL, and also a custom-built admin area for CMS. This HTML interface has also a lot of cool Javascript features like slideshow, lightbox, etc.
The Flex interface is displayed after a user logs in. It has access control mechanism as who can use what features depending on what package the user buys. In general it serves as a social networking application and training management tool for athletes
The project is unfortunately stopped, but interesting technologies developed or experienced include:
- Rightscale to manage deployments with Amazon EC2 and S3, complete with load balancing, automatic backup to S3, failover capability, and automatic notification when the server instances are down.
- Of course with Elastic IPs and Dynamic DNS
- A complete subscription billing code from purchase, cancel, and upgrades, with both Paypal Website Payments Standard and on-site credit card payment (ActiveMerchant)
- A flex module with Google Maps enabling users to create a running route by just clicking around on a map, calculate its distance, save the route and share it with friends
